StoppingPoints.com Editorial on Site of Ueltschey's Tannery: | The Mississippi historical marker for Ueltschey's tannery has Albert's last name spelled as Ueltshey, while the recent news story announcing the placement of the marker has it spelled Ueltschey throughout. If the historical marker spelling of Ueltshey is incorrect, it wouldn't be the first time a MS marker had spelling errors, unfortunately. In the marker name and above description, we've chosen to correct the spelling and go with the Scott County news spelling. It's also possible that the name has alternate spellings — not unusual for 18th and 19th century historical American name records. |
