The Old State Capital Building, Jackson, Mississippi. The Old Capitol was completed in 1839. It was built in the Greek Revival style of architecture. Features which the Capitol building has which are common to Greek Revival architecture include a symmetrical floorplan with flanking wings around the central section; a columned portico; a pediment over the portico. The building's dome is actually not part of the Grecian references - domes typically came later, during the Roman Empire. |
