Lafayette County Courthouse photo - picture in Oxford, Lafayette County, Mississippi The courthouse in Oxford town square, Lafayette County, Mississippi. The Courthouse provided a significant model for a building in a scene in William Faulkner's fictional Jefferson County providing a dramatic setting for the end of The Sound and the Fury. The Courthouse appears in multiple other Faulkner stories, including including ones featuring the lawyer Gavin Stevens, such as in Knight's Gambit, and portions of Go Down, Moses. Lafayette County also inspired Faulkner's fictional Yoknapatawpha County, Mississippi, which was based in part upon it. |
