Texas State Historical Marker |
This congregation began as a mission of the First Baptist Church in 1894, and was formally organized as the Haskell Avenue Baptist Church in 1908. Designed by prominent Fort Worth architects E. W. Van Slyke and Charles Woodruff after this site was acquired in 1915, this building was completed in 1917. A sophisticated example of early 20th century classicism, it exhibits hallmarks of the style including a pedimented entry portico with colossal Order Ionic columns and classical architrave. Its lantern dome is a visual landmark for much of east Dallas. Recorded Texas Historic Landmark - 1999
