Oldest house in Cooper. Built in 1871 by George Washington Morris, who came by ox-cart to Texas from Mississippi in 1868 and opened first general store in county. A skilled carpenter, he also hand-crafted furniture for interior of house. Built of lumber milled in Texas, home featured first glass windows and screen doors in city. Many persons traveled from miles away to see these modern and unique innovations. RTHL 1966
