On land deeded Dec. 9, 1856, to John Wilburn (d. about 1864), who with help of slaves built this house by an ever-flowing spring while his family lived nearby in a cabin. Hand-dressed lumber in structure came by wagon from Jefferson. During Civil War, Wilburn died in Confederate service. A cousin, Aaron Nettles Wilburn (1839-1919) of Missouri, married the widow Sarah Jane Wilburn (1830-1917), Dec. 20, 1865. The family had 8 children. Home is still (1973) owned by descendants.
